About CALII


CALII is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation formed by a group of concerned and interested private citizens having diverse and relevant professional qualifications.  It was formed as a non-partisan, independent, objective and technologically agnostic catalyst for collaboration between government, business and academia.  The goal is for CALII to give voice to objective information and reason that will move our society toward needed innovation and change.


The CALII Board and its advisors have broad backgrounds in: urban planning; local, regional and national government; transportation security; power generation and supply; engineering, construction and electrical circuitry; and related legal matters.  Its members are well acquainted with Southern California’s municipal governments and the metropolitan planning organizations (or “MPOs”) serving them.  CALII’s goal is to bring together government, business, academia, professionals, environmentalists, regulators and the public in order to build consensus and advance the research, development and deployment of innovative transportation technologies in order to address our transportation challenges.


CALII’s Board includes Dr. Catherine Burke, Professor Emeritus, University of Southern California; Steven L. Burke, ret. COO, Newbury Electric, Los Angeles; Michael F. Boyle, ret. partner, Higgs, Fletcher & Mack, San Diego; Dr. Roger Caves, Professor of City Planning, San Diego State University; James A. Kelly, ret. Sr. Vice President Transmission and Distribution, Southern California Edison; and Dr. Errol G. Southers, Security Consultant and Director of Homegrown Violent Extremist Studies, University of Southern California.  Our Board members’ efforts are conducted on a pro-bono basis.  None of them have a financial stake in the outcome of CALII’s projects or recommendations.
